Gemma - STUDYING TO SERVE

Gemma is a first year student at the Bible School near Cordova, Spain. Her great motivation to prepare herself to serve the Lord is seen in that she foregoes her vacation times, staying on to work on the Bible School grounds in order to pay her school bill. She and her husband left good-paying jobs to come and study. They receive some financial help from her family.

Gemma, is 23 years old and has two siblings. At this time only her mother and brother are commited followers of Jesus. Her call to the ministry is solid. Her mother became a Christian when Gemma was two years old and so raised Gemma in the ways of the Lord. Gemma was baptized in water when she was 10. She received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit at 12. In her teen-aged years she went though a period of spiritual crisis, however she never doubted God. She just had a lot of questions and this bothered her deeply. She came out of this crisis time as the Lord showed her that what was in her heart was nothing more than rebellion and that she needed to submit to the Lord and to His Word. God showed her His immense love for mankind and the great price He paid on the cross.

This was enough to "throw myself into His is loving arms" as she puts it. From a very early age, Gemma knew that her life had a purpose in Christian service. She did not want to live apart from God. She did not want to live a lukewarm or mediocre life, either. When she finished High School, she studied social services and received her degree. She wants to serve the needy and people with social difficulties. In her church she has developed a very fruitful ministry with the young people and works with a Non-Governmental Organization devoted to humanitarian aid called "Dignidad". (Dignity)

Gemma has been married for two years to David, a young man, 25 years old who has a clear call to the ministry. David is an elementary school teacher. This couple decided to apply for admission to the Bible School in December of 2005. As a result of enrolling, they had to leave their secular jobs and are trying to get enough money together by working during their vacations.Their effort and dedication to the Lord's work is inspirational.

They are both very involved in evangelism, taking advantage of free moments to go to the nearby village to preach the Gospel and witness one-on-one . Their lives have been models for the other students in the Bible School. Jesús Caramés, the director of the Bible School says, "They are a real gift of God to the church in Spain."
