Join Us In Prayer
Dear Friends:
Since coming to office, Dr. George Wood, the general superintendent of the Assemblies of God U.S.A., has promoted what he calls our core values. There are five of them. The first one is passionate proclamation; the second is strategic investment; the third is vigorous planting; the fourth is skillful resourcing, and the fifth is fervent prayer.
I would like to address the subject of fervent prayer for a few moments.
In November 2008 the Assemblies of God Europe Region conducted what we call a think tank. Thirty-five missionaries from across Europe—different gender and age and experience—came together and strategically looked forward to the next three to five years and said, “What things do we need to address?” We came up with nine topics and decided afterward in reflection that we needed to begin the year of 2009 with a concerted effort of all of our personnel and friends of Europe in prayer.
We initiated on January 1, 2009, the 100 Days of Prayer that will go to April 10, 2009. We are over halfway into our prayer 100 days, and God has been at work through the efforts of His people, the efforts being intercessory prayer.
The nine areas that we are addressing are the European church, particularly focusing on the revitalization of the local church and local church congregations and pastors but also on the training of leaders (pastors, evangelists, prophets) for the future.
The second area that we are addressing is that of student ministries. We’re talking about university ministries and high school ministries, particularly ministries that we have in Europe—Master’s Commission and Students for Christ.
The third area is children. There are 85 million children in Europe who need to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ, and Save Europe’s Children (our ministry to them and to our missionaries to reach these children) needs our prayers.
The fourth area is church planting. There are over 200,000 cities, towns, and villages in Europe that don’t have a church—a Pentecostal, evangelical church. And we’re praying for this vital area.
The fifth area is compassion ministries. The fact is that there are many poor living among the wealthy cities of Europe but particularly in southeastern Europe. The gypsies and others have a very difficult time, so we are thanking God for ministries like Convoy of Hope to reach out to them.
The sixth area would be technology. Europe is one of the most technologically advanced continents. We need to better use technology in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, so we’re praying for that.
The seventh area is immigration. The fact is that if present trends continue, Europeans, as we know them, will change because of demographic issues. Europeans are not birthing as many children as they need to to maintain the population. There is, however, a huge importing of immigrants, particularly of non-Christian background, coming to Europe. So we are praying for this vital area.
The eighth area is international church. We have a network of over 30 international churches in Europe, and we see them as a vital link of reaching to numbers of people across the major cities of Europe.
And the last area is missionary issues. We are dealing with visa issues, with social security issues, with tax issues, and then children’s schooling and housing and economic issues, such as the devaluation of the dollar and such.
So, if you join us in prayer, we cycle these nine issues beginning with the first of January, going through April 10. Thank you for praying for Europe. We appreciate it very much.
God bless you.,
Greg Mundis
